NorCRID Annual Conference & Business Meeting

November 7th, 2026 9AM-4PM San Francisco, CA

Hello Community.

It’s that time again. Our 2026 NorCRID conference and Business Meeting ‘Heritage’ will happen in San Francisco, in a beautiful light-filled room in the City College Chinatown/N Beach Campus building.

We have a fantastic program set for the day. Take a trip back in time with us to a vibrant San Francisco in 1977, where a group of activists from across different organizations, backgrounds and abilities organized a sit-in at the Hew Federal Building on April 5.Their collaborative effort led to the passage of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. Many of us have learned about this event as a precursor to the ADA law, but there is so much more to tell — & Deaf people + ASL are integral to the story.

(To date, this is the longest non-violent occupation of a federal building in US History!)

The day’s program includes a documentary made about the event, and then a panel discussion featuring individuals who participated. A delicious breakfast and lunch are part of your registration — we care about nurturing our bodies as well as our hearts.

Come be in the room on November 7. We look forward to seeing you again.

*Location is accessible by public transportation, with a parking garage across the street. Building is wheelchair accessible.

*Please submit any accommodation requests by 10/15. Email: vicepresident@norcrid.org

(Tentative 0.4 CEU)

Please See Below for Important Details Concerning Registration:

This year our conference registration is going to work a little differently: everyone planning to attend must register in advance – no payment will be accepted at the door. This ensures an accurate count for food, and allows us to use a non-profit discount for the venue rental. (Registration will be open until 11/6/2026)

NorCRID embraces a sliding scale model grounded in the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and fairness for our 2026 conference registration. We believe in making our conference accessible while honoring the value of our work – to nurture generosity, shared responsibility, and a vibrant, connected interpreting community built on trust. We also value transparency; below is a breakdown of what costs we need to cover the day.

Using 2024 attendance (~140) as a model for this year, here is a breakdown of costs: Food: $80 / Venue & equipment rental: $50 / Presenters/misc: $50  =  ~$180/person:

Our sliding scale approach is adapted from various models, including Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s Green Bottle Model, to balance accessibility with sustainability.

No proof required — When looking at the ticket options, please look at the full description and choose the amount that best matches your current resources:

  • Community Sustainer (higher) – covers full cost + supports others

  • Community Supporter (middle) – covers your own cost

  • Community Access (lower) – subsidized for those who need reduced cost

NorCRID welcomes Deaf and DeafBlind community members free of charge (you must also register!)

No one turned away for lack of funds.

A lot of consideration has gone into this approach. If you have any questions or would like to know more about the framework used to obtain this model, please email us at board@norcrid.org. Thank you!
