HEART
NorCRID Annual Conference & Business Meeting
October 18th, 2025
Align --- Engage --- Connect
Hi again. It was lovely to see those of you who attended last year’s conference in San Francisco — what a beautiful day of gathering in space together to learn, enjoy, and simply BE together.
We’ve had another year of tremendous shift in our communities — globally and locally, and perhaps had our capacity challenged in ways previously unimagined. Despite all of that, resilience abounds and we keep on, doing good work. Considering these points, we arrived at the theme of this year’s conference: HEART. With our compass set on this alignment, we can show up with curiosity, respect and the best of ourselves in any given moment — & who doesn’t need more love in their world?
It’s that time again. We have come full circle and are preparing to gather in community for nourishment and connection. Our 2025 conference will take place in the lovely Jack London Aquatic Center, in Oakland. We selected this location for several reasons: natural light, indoor/outdoor spaces, as well as parking and accessibility. We are excited again to offer a delightful breakfast and lunch for attendees featuring the beloved Chef Erin, who graced us with her culinary magic last year. The menu has an emphasis on sustainable, local food (vegetarian/vegan/GF/meat options available). We’ve created a program that is engaging and insightful, and selected presenters — Ranem Shhadeh and Diedre Tanenberg — who reflect those values. Thank you for all you do. We’ll see you very soon.

Please See Below for Important Details Concerning Registration:
This year our conference registration is going to work a little differently: everyone planning to attend must register in advance – no payment will be accepted at the door. This ensures an accurate count for food, and allows us to use a non-profit discount for the venue rental. (Registration will be open until 10/01/2025.)
NorCRID embraces a sliding scale model grounded in the values of inclusivity, diversity, equity, and fairness for our 2025 conference registration. We believe in making our conference accessible while honoring the value of our work – to nurture generosity, shared responsibility, and a vibrant, connected interpreting community built on trust. We also value transparency; below is a breakdown of what costs we need to cover the day.
Using 2024 attendance (~140) as a model for this year, here is a breakdown of costs: Food: $80 / Venue & equipment rental: $50 / Presenters/misc: $50 = ~$180/person:
Our sliding scale approach is adapted from various models, including Alexis J. Cunningfolk’s Green Bottle Model, to balance accessibility with sustainability.
No proof required — When looking at the ticket options, please look at the full description and choose the amount that best matches your current resources:
Community Sustainer (higher) – covers full cost + supports others
Community Supporter (middle) – covers your own cost
Community Access (lower) – subsidized for those who need reduced cost
NorCRID welcomes Deaf and DeafBlind community members free of charge (you must also register!)
No one turned away for lack of funds.
A lot of consideration has gone into this approach. If you have any questions or would like to know more about the framework used to obtain this model, please email us at board@norcrid.org. Thank you!
